Blunt Feminist Statements

- Solidarity amongst women is one of the most beautiful things.

- Apparently no one ever thinks of the boys. (...sarcasm)

- White women need to shut up sometimes.

- Using racism "ironically" in a joke is a poor excuse to cover inherent bigotry.

- Body hair is as beautiful as you want it to be.

- The impact of slavery in the US continues to shape modern society.

- For a lot of people, speaking up about intersectional feminism is not "just a social justice thing", it's an attempt to prevent their lives from being subject to oppression.

- Reverse racism doesn't exist. Neither does reverse sexism. Ever.

- Respecting people's preferred pronouns does not make you Queen of Acceptance, it makes you an averagely decent person. A pat on the back isn't necessary for showing everyday respect.

- Menstrual blood is not gross.

-  A hijab does not automatically mean a poor oppressed damsel in distress.

- Women do not need a man to complete their lives. Or babies.

Are you saying that black people can't be racist towards white people? And that women can't be sexist against men?

    1. I definitely am :)
Here's the article I wrote which properly steps through the issue and explains it: http://afeministfatale.blogspot.com.au/p/oppression-101.html

    2. So uh... there's actually a difference between oppression and racism. The two words mean different things.

This article is fairly accurate imo (although it seems to think systematic oppression is only when the government is racism, however I think systematic just means any institutionalised - public or private - discrimination)

    4. White people in south Africa experience discrimination, not racism. This is because racism is a form of oppression, and only historically institutionalised power groups (I.e. white people) have the means and ability to oppress. This does not justify the discrimination against white people in south Africa, and both racism and discrimination are equally illegal in the eyes of the law, however it is important to understand the difference between black and white experiences in a world which is geared to benefit white people.
South Africa is a very interesting case study, but unfortunately it is often used by white people as an excuse to shuck off their responsibility to fight racism.

    5. From the Cambridge US English dictionary:

'Racism is the belief that some races are better than others, or the unfair treatment of someone because of his or her race'

Are the people in the video being treated unfairly because of their race?
      Yes, they are.
Therefore, it's racism. There is no need to examine the history of South Africa - of course, black people suffered under apartheid, I would never deny that - in this instance, because the white people in the video are being treated unfairly because of their race.

      It's racism.

    6. Oh also, on sexism, from google:

prejudice, stereotyping, or discrimination, typically against women, on the basis of sex.

      TYPICALLY. the key word.

I'm.not saying that men are major sufferers of sexism, of course - women have it far worse, especially in middle eastern countries etc. That are far behind in terms of gender equality. However the point remains that sexism CAN be against both (or 'any') gender.

This is the definition of the word, so I hardly see how it's at all subjective...

    7. Here's an article on why the dictionary definition is a terrible excuse for "reverse racism":
      http://everydayfeminism.com/2015/01/reverse-oppression-cant-exist/
And I cant tell if its the same Anon so again here is my explanation of the issue:
      http://afeministfatale.blogspot.com.au/p/oppression-101.html
I can understand that it's a difficult issue to grapple with, but very important in understanding our roles as perpetrators of racism and the ways we can stop it.

    8. But that article makes the assumption that sexism and racism are synonymous with oppression, which they aren't. They are different words that have different meanings.

I'm not saying those white people in south Africa were oppressed. I'm saying that they were discriminated ed against on the basis of their race - which is racism. Racism does not always equate to oppression. Racial discrimination does not always involve oppression, merely discrimination based on race. You can't just change the definition of the word to say it automatically means oppression, because it just doesn't.

White people don't experience racially based oppression, but they do experience racial discrimination in very isolated instances.
